Release Notes - October 2025

Below is a summary of the items covered within the Smarter SMSF - October 2025 update held on 21 October 2025, that covers new features, documents and education updates from July - September 2025.

🔧 1. Platform Features & Enhancements

Admin Console – New ‘Ready to Submit’ Workflow

For Document subscription members. The Admin Console has been enhanced with a new feature allowing ‘parent’ users to mark 'saved orders' of a user under the subscription as ‘Ready to Submit’ - the Action button will change to green to highlight the status change of ready to submit.  This visual status helps teams to track the progress of an order that has been reviewed by a parent user (e.g. manager) and ensures documents have had oversight before finalisation.

Importantly, the completed order is retained (the ownership) by the user, allowing them to use DocFlows to enable the next step within a task - e.g. Generating a New SMSF > ABN/TFN application.

ABN/TFN Application – ATO 'Manual Review' Status

A new ' amber' status has been added to indicate when ABN/TFN applications are subject to manual ATO review. Users can follow up the order with the ABR using the Document Number provided on the generated Certificate.

A benefit for Document subscription members can now lodge these applications with no extra fee—the order is deducted from the firm's document counter. PAYG pricing remains $55 (incl. GST).

TFN Validation – Smarter Data Accuracy

TFN validation is now built into the Fund Establishment form, reducing errors and flowing validated data directly into ABN/TFN applications via the DocFlow function.

Integration Enhancements – Class, BGL & Notifications

Integration with Class now supports multi-business API connections. A new Fund Code field has replaced the order reference when pushing SMSF data.

For BGL users, Send to CAS360 has been updated, and a new traffic light system for connection notifications is in development.

Smarter SMSF 3rd Party API Access

The new Smarter SMSF public API allows members to connect their order forms (internal or external) for document automation. Currently available for:

  • New SMSF
  • Special Purpose Trustee Company
  • Standard Company

You can view the API document here, https://docs.api.smartersmsf.com/

Please note that the team are currently working on the following documentation to expand the API:

  1. Pension Commencement,
  2. LRBA, and
  3. Deed Upgrades

Custom Cover Pages – Tailor Your Brand Experience

Document subscription members can now design custom cover pages for documents via the Admin Console, replacing the default Smarter SMSF cover with personalised branding.

Smarter SMSF will arrange to build a field mapping document within the knowledge base to help members dynamically populate their custom cover pages.

📄 2. Document Updates

Pension Commencement – Flexibility for Non-Trustee Members

The Pension Commencement form now includes an ‘Other’ member type to cater for members who are not trustees/directors (e.g., due to incapacity).

Pension Standards – TR 2013/5 Implementation

Following ATO's updated guidance in TR 2013/5 - when a pension commences and ceases, Smarter SMSF has updated the terms & conditions of the pension commencement documents where the member has failed to meet the pension standards in a financial year - e.g. did not meet minimum pension. Updates have been made within the trustee resolution, along with notification to the fund member, which confirms that no minimum pension is required to be withdrawn in the year of commutation:

NB. The Pension Rollback form now includes ‘failing pension standards’ as a rollback reason, automatically generating appropriate documents.

Other Document Enhancements

  • Trust Deed: Updated for Legacy Pension regulations now being in full force.
  • PDS: To be updated for proposed Division 296 tax measure changes (WIP)
  • DBN Forms: Updated in line with Appendices 1 & 2 of Smarter SMSF Deed
  • Downsizer Contributions: Pre-filled ATO form now included

  • Legacy Pensions: Updated for Asset-Test Exempt (ATE) changes effective 27 October 2025

  • LRBA Wind-Up: In development for asset transfers and wind-ups

New: Bare Trust Vesting Order Form

Launching in November 2025, this new form allows the wind-up of the LRBA ie. vesting of bare trust.

NB. A CPD webinar titled “End of a LRBA” is also available on the Learn platform that walks through this process.

🚀 3. Coming Soon

Tabs Within Order Forms – A Faster Way to Work

Tabbed navigation is coming to document order forms, allowing quicker transitions and improved user experience.

Key features include:

  • Preview before submission (via pop-up modal)
  • Dedicated tab for Smarter Legal Review (SLR)
  • No payment tab shown for members (except for ASIC orders)

Docusign Integration – Electronic Signatures

We’re integrating Docusign into the platform - we are currently adding the signature placeholders into various documents.  This electronic signing solution will incorporate BGL’s Simple Fund 360, enabling  you to POST documents into SF360 and use custom reports for enabling digital signing of the chosen documents.

Bare Trust Deed Stamping - VIC State Revenue Office (SRO)

Smarter SMSF is now SRO-registered for stamping of Victorian Bare Trust Deeds. Soon, you’ll be able to opt for Smarter SMSF to manage the stamping within the order form.

You will have the ability within the LRBA form to choose for Smarter SMSF to arrange for stamping (as non-dutiable) - this will be 'conditional' based upon the jurisdiction (i.e. Victoria) and will add the ability to make a payment (member or non-member) for this task to be completed.
Once we have updated this for LRBAs, Smarter SMSF will extend the setup for other trusts on platform (unit trust, discretionary trust).
